Their outstanding properties, namely resistance to aggressive substances, strength, durability and fire resistance, allow them to be used for a wide variety of tasks.
GOST standards and types of this rolled metal product
The production method in this case depends on GOST requirements. For example:
- GOST 9941 81 defines the production method that results in the production of stainless steel electric-welded pipes.

This can be an electric arc, an electron beam, high-frequency dots, plasma, or a laser. The "beam" method is not very often used in the manufacture of electric-welded stainless steel pipes, as it is quite expensive, as all processes are performed in a vacuum.
Electric-welded metal products are used for the manufacture of pipelines and various structures.
The length of electric-welded pipes is as follows: measured length – from 5 to 9 meters; non-measured length – from 1.5 to 9 m. The maximum deviation in the length of short and measured lengths cannot exceed +15 mm.
The specified regulatory document applies to types of electric-welded pipe assortment with wall dimensions from 0.7 to 5 mm.
- Seamless stainless steel pipes are also produced in accordance with GOST.

Based on temperature conditions, the following types are defined: cold-formed; heat-formed; and hot-formed. The first two types of seamless tubular materials are regulated by document 9941-81.
These options have external volumes ranging from 0.6 to 27.4 cm3 and wall thicknesses ranging from 0.3 to 21 mm. For the latter type of seamless options, different standards apply: 9940-81. These standards specify volumes ranging from 58 to 326 mm3 and wall thicknesses ranging from 3.6 to 31 mm.
IMPORTANT! In practice, the production of stainless steel tubular products is not always limited by standards. By agreement with the client, products can be manufactured with different volume and wall dimensions.
Stainless steel profile
Stainless steel profile pipe GOST 8642-68 is a type of rolled metal products.
Profile tubular products vary in production method, and are available in the following options:
- electric welding;
- seamless;
- hot rolled;
- cold rolled.
Further division of these products occurs according to processing options, these are:
- matte assortment;
- polished types;
- products with a mirror surface.
The primary application for profile products is in construction. These rolled pipes are hollow inside, but have four stiffening ribs. This design of profile options provides these products with high elasticity.
Bending and torsion indicators In this situation, the characteristics are in no way inferior to those of a similarly sized metal bar. Moreover, it should be noted that the material consumption and weight of the pipe are significantly reduced. Based on these facts, the benefits of using such materials are obvious.
Profile pipes are used in the construction of frames, partitions, and decorative structures. These durable products are unproblematic during welding. They also require no additional protective or decorative coating.

Rectangular and square stainless steel
Rectangular stainless steel pipes manufactured according to GOST are in high demand in the rolled metal market. Square stainless steel pipes complying with GOST 8639 are also in high demand.
Rectangular and square products are made from various grades of authentic steel. This range comes in matte, polished, and mirror finishes.
The main characteristics of rectangular and square tubular materials, regardless of the type of surface part, are:
- long service life;
- resistance to the influence of corrosive formations;
- ease of installation work.
For any metal structure, rectangular and square tubing are a perfect choice. They are used to construct various structures, supports, frames, towers, and much more.
These materials make it possible to significantly reduce construction costs. Furthermore, square tubular products are widely used in the oil, medical, and food industries.
The great popularity of rectangular and square tubular materials is dictated by their distinctive ability to retain their original characteristics for a long period, and these characteristics are not at all lost when products are exposed to aggressive substances.
The advantages of a rectangular stainless steel pipe manufactured according to GOST are as follows:
- Rectangular products are easy to transport and store.
- The rectangular range is distinguished by high corrosion resistance and specific characteristics due to alloying additives in the steel.
- The excellent surface quality of the rectangular range gives the products a presentable appearance.
- The convenient rectangular hollow shape allows for the rational placement of the assembled structure within the building.
Requirements for this product range
Stainless steel pipes according to GOST 9941 81 are manufactured in compliance with the following requirements:
- The ends of the finished product are cut at a right angle and carefully deburred. This sometimes creates a slight roughness on the surface, forming a chamfer. The standards described allow for such formations. Customers often specifically discuss the presence of a chamfer with the manufacturer on products with a wall thickness greater than five mm, as this allows for more effective welding.
- These pipes may exhibit a slight curvature in a meter-long section. This is two millimeters for a design with a 0.05 cm wall thickness and a 1.5 cm cross-section. It is also one millimeter for designs with a wall thickness greater than 0.05 cm and a cross-section greater than 0.5 cm.
- The steel grades used for these pipes may contain small inclusions of rare earth metals. However, sulfur content may not exceed 0.02%.
- All finished products undergo mandatory heat treatment. This is waived only by individual agreement with the customer. In such cases, the curvature and mechanical characteristics of the products are discussed with each client individually.
- The presence of overlaps on either the outer or inner surfaces of this product range is not permitted. There must also be no cracks or tears. When removing such defects, the dimensions of these tubular products must not exceed the stated requirements.
How is the acceptance of finished goods carried out?
Stainless steel pipes complying with GOST 9941-81 are accepted in batches. They are assembled based on heat treatment, source alloy, and geometric shape. A single batch of stainless steel products may not exceed 200 tubular products.
Quality control of stainless steel products includes the following procedures:
- Intergranular corrosion testing. Two tubular blanks from a batch are selected for testing.
- Expanding and flattening. One tubular product is used for testing.
- Tensile testing. Two blanks are used for this test.
If all testing procedures are successful, the batch of stainless steel is considered to be of good quality. If testing reveals unsatisfactory quality, another check is carried out. This is an ultrasound examination., hydraulic testing and analysis of geometric dimensionsAnd the final dimensional check is carried out on the entire batch of stainless steel products, without sampling.
Products 19277
GOST 19277-73 defines seamless stainless steel pipes. This type of pipe eliminates the weld seam, resulting in significantly higher strength of the finished product. GOST 19277-73 applies to the following types: cold-formed, heat-formed, and hot-formed.
Tubular metal products GOST 19277 73 demonstrate all the best indicators of types of steel products.
Rolled tubular products GOST 19277 73 are produced:
- thin-walled options;
- thick-walled assortment;
- capillary tubular rolling.
The features in this case are as follows: with a similar external volume for this range greater wall thickness, than the variants produced by electric welding.
Accordingly, these products are characterized by higher strength and the ability to withstand heavier loads. On larger walls made of steel grade GOST 19277-73, threaded joints can be installed and specialized reinforcement can be used.
These options are manufactured in non-dimensional lengths. They range in size from 1.5 to 10 meters. Small diameter options range from 8.9 to 10.8 cm and are produced in seven-meter sections. Large diameter options reach up to nine meters in length.
Stainless steel pipes complying with GOST 19277-73 are used in conventional and nuclear power generation, as well as in aircraft and automotive manufacturing. They can also be found in oil refining and gas industries. They are also indispensable in various sectors of the national economy.
Dimensions
The sizes and dimensions of stainless steel pipe assortment can be found in special tables., which provide detailed information on all indicators. Here are some of them:
- Stainless steel pipe according to GOST 9941-81 has the following dimensions: external volume from 5 to 273 mm. Seamless blanks according to the same standards have wall thicknesses from 0.2 to 22 mm.
- This rolled pipe, according to GOST dimensions, is characterized by a weight that depends on the actual volume and wall dimensions, as well as the presence of a coating. For example, a galvanized version of the same dimensions will be heavier.
All products that comply with standards have precise dimensions and excellent characteristics. However, when choosing, it's important to navigate the vast array of options from manufacturers. Our consultants are ready to assist you at any time.
